Hewie and Louie

Hewie and Louie were my first gerbils ever. The local pet store was out of
hamsters and I was finally allowed to get a pet. When I walked in I saw shelves of
pets neatly arranged and asked to look at these little creatures I had never seen
before. When I held them I looked into their curious, unfearing eyes and instantly
was attached. Hewie and Louie chose me as their owner when they climbed up
onto my arm. I remember when I first brought them home I didn't want to hold
them for fear they might escape but learned over time they would eventually
escape on their own. :) Hewie was a very good escape artist and was nicknamed
"Hew-dini". Louie was my favorite gerbil who passed on earlier than his littermate.
Before he died they had two accidental pups who died a week later. I named the
pups Chewie and Dewie. Louie died on August 16, 1999 and I will never forget
him. Hewie lived to the ripe old age of four and a half until she died in June of
2000. They were my first gerbils and will always be loved and remembered in my
heart and thoughts.

Scrap

Scrap was a very friendly 4 week old gerbil whom I rescued.  My plans
were to pair her with an older black female.  She paired easily with the
female.  Several days later, after all seemed to be going well, she was
attacked. When I found her she looked like a scrap of something in the
cage, thus her name.  She had bites on her rump, tail, belly, and head.  She
was in pain so I hand-fed her milk and food pellets and cleaned her wounds.
Sadly, the injuries were too great and the next day she passed on in her
sleep.  Even though I did not have her long, she will be in my heart and my
thoughts. I am glad the suffering is over for you Scrap.  Rest in peace.

Kinko

Kinko was born early morning on November 27th, 2003 to Mouse
and Kirby. On October 24th, 2004 at 7:55pm Kinko passed on where
he is reunited with his sisters and awaiting the rest of his family.  He
died of unknown causes but it appeared to be a stroke.  Despite
efforts to get him warm and feed him, he said goodbye with a little
squeak, took one last breath, grabbed onto my finger, and passed on.
He will be missed. Kinko also won 2nd place in the 2003 virtual show
and was a very excellent escape artist and cardboard shredder.

November 27th, 2003 to October 24th, 2004.
Foxy

I brought Foxy into my life in February 2003.  She was a
young adult at the time and the second agouti I had ever
owned. I bred Foxy to Diego a few months after getting
her in hopes of producing agouti. Foxy had a litter of 6
agoutis, one of which was Trixie. After retiring her and her
cagemate from breeding, they were paired.  Through illness
and health they lived together and on December 21st, 2005
Foxy's illness took her life.

February 2002 to December 21st, 2005.
Trixie

She was born to Foxy and Diego November
3rd, 2003.  She was the first litter born at my
rodentry and from her litter I learned many
things about breeding.  In late 2005 she began
to suffer from abdominal swelling due to
unknown causes.  She remained alert and active
until one day she was no longer enjoying life.  I
made the decision to have her euthanized on
February 6th, 2006.  Rest in Peace, Trixie.

April 27th, 2003 to February 6th, 2006.
Kirby

Once in a great while, a special pet enters your life.  On January 3rd of
2003 Kirby and Diego entered my life.  I was chosen by Kirby first and
shortly after, Diego.  These brothers were my first gerbils since Hewie
and Louie.  Kirby was soon bred with Mouse and produced one of my
best litters.  I kept his sons Kinko and Henry.  When I first had gerbils,
I knew nothing of their care, through Kirby and Diego I began to
research their proper care and because of them, I have gotten where I
am today.  When Diego was injured, you kept him comfort.  In Kirby's
illness, Diego was your constant companion. You gave me some of my
best offspring, began my genetics interest, and helped me to become a
more responsible pet owner.  All I ever wanted was "just another gerbil
pair" but instead I found you Kirby.  You gave me three and a half
wonderful years and will not be forgotten.

December 2002 to March 20th, 2006.
Mouse

Mouse was the main founder of my breeding
program.  She first sparked my interest in genetics
and breeding.  Through her, many people gained an
interest in gerbils.  Her babies were the best
mannered, never did one bite, just like Mouse
herself.  She was born in December 2002 and
produced many offspring, Yoshi, Henry, and Kinko
to name a few.  In early June of 2006 she began to
suffer from respiratory illness and despite antibiotic
treatments she passed on in the company of her
beloved retired breeding cagemate, Lani.  She will
be sorely missed, as a founder, a gorgeous well
mannered girl, and my favorite gerbil.  Rest in Peace
my sweet Mouse-ums..

Lani

Lani came to me in my rescue efforts, pregnant and
with a gorgeous batch of pups. Shortly after she gave
birth to a second litter of consecutive pups and was one
of my best gerbil moms. Later on, I bred her to Calvin
to produce some spotted colorpoints, and although I
never did get my colorpoints from her, the pups made
up for it in temperament and form. She was always a
plump eager gal, allowing herself to be handled, and
always eager to take treats or shred some cardboard.
After she was retired, she was paired with one of my
other retired breeding gals, Mouse. They bonded closely
until Mouse died of old age earlier on in 2006. Lani was
never quite the same without her cagemate and slowly
began to fade until July 30th, 2006 when she passed on.
RIP Lani....
